Mothers were supposed to love unconditionally. Mine didn't. In fact, she tried to kill me on my thirteenth birthday, when she saw just how different I was. My dad saved my life that night. He also took her away on an extended vacation, leaving me with an ever-absent uncle.

Five years later, solitude was something I lived by. I had to because I was different and people tended not to cope well with the unusual. In fact, they hated me for it, were even scared of me because of it.

I thought I was meant to live alone, until Isaac Grey took notice of me. He changed my life, taught me I wasn't the only one who was different, and I didn't need to be alone.

But with love comes sacrifice and then pain. Could I ever escape living in the dark?

Review by Cassie Hoffman

In The Dark is the first book I've read by Lila Rose, and it's made a fan out of me. Paranormal reads is what started my love of reading. It was nice to go back to what started my addiction. It was like coming home. From the very first page you're captured. It sucks you right in. I was in wonder of what was happening to Lila. A great way to start a book!!

"When you sink, you sink hard. And I had. Even if it scared the life out of me, I wasn't going to give any of it up for anything."- Leila

Leila is left to fend for herself in a new normal that she doesn't even know what it is. She's the outcast in town, with two different eye colors, that's cast her as a witch and other hateful names. She very uncomfortable in her skin, self conscious. And in the book, I love that she grows to love herself.

"I will prove myself to you, Leila,"- Isaac

When Isaac and his family move to town, all will change for Leila... In ways she could have never fathomed.

"Life is truly mean sometimes."- Leila

In The Dark is a great Paranormal read. It has all the great things that makes it a good book, one you can't put down. You have to know what will happen with Leila and Isaac. What will Leila learn. I did in a few parts feel a bit of Twilight come out. Lol. Not a lot, but some. And I think that's just par with the course of a Paranormal book. There were times I laughed super hard, and I think you'll know the parts I'm speaking of, if you read this book. Like I said, this is the first book of Lila Rose, I've read and I'm now a huge fan. I'm hoping she will continue this story, there is still so much she can touch on.

4 stars!

I was born in Brisbane Australia, my step-dad was in the Army which caused us to move around a lot. We finally settled in country Victoria, Australia. I am the youngest of four children and I can say that I was spoilt a bit. I drove my mum crazy when I refused to eat meat at a young age.

Now I live with my husband and two children, and I find myself regretting all the troubles I put my parents through because my monsters are just as picky as I was.

I started writing in 2013 and self-published the first of the Hawks MC Club series Holding Out. The next to follow was something different, I wrote Senseless Attraction, a YA novel. Soon, I was back to the Hawks series with number two Climbing Out. I have more to write in the series, but there will be also be more novels in the humorous erotica genre, like Left to Chance.
